Sam specialises in insurance/reinsurance policy coverage and dispute resolution acting on behalf of reinsurers, reinsureds and their insureds, both in the UK and worldwide.
Sam has particular experience in professional indemnity, financial institutions/D&O, commercial property, political violence, cyber/AI. She regularly acts on high value, multi-jurisdictional disputes advising on both policy application and commercial strategy.
Sam has provided non-contentious insurance and reinsurance advice including advising on policy wordings, compliance with international sanctions and FCA regulation.
Notable cases:
• Defending a firm of solicitors in a £57m fraud and conspiracy claim involving allegations against directors of a company that company profits had been artificially inflated to increase the sale price by channelling money through the solicitors’ client account.
• Advising on a professional negligence claim against a firm of solicitors involving a transaction in Dubai where a post-date cheque had been used as security in a multi-million pound property development.
• Advising on a claim under a political violence policy where the insured was pursuing a substantial claim against the cedant, however the cedant’s 100% facultative reinsurer argued there were grounds for avoidance and would not agree to an indemnity under the reinsurance policy.
• Advising a reinsurer on the drawdown of Funds At Lloyd’s in breach of an Excess of Loss reinsurance agreement.
